I had fun with my art history lesson about Hekate together with a small group of attendants last week! To me this feels like a step up to do this more often. 12 June 2024: symbolism of the Sun

In honor of Midsummer, I will tell more about sun symbolism in several European cultures, from the Celtic and Germanic cultures to the ancient Greeks and Romans. Maybe it will give you some ideas for your own celebrartion!

17 July 2024: Hans Baldung Grien’s witch art

Northern Renaissance artist Hans Balding Grien has made several fascinating art works depicting witches and their magical works. Let’s dive into these strange images and see what we can learn from them.

14 August 2024: Nehalennia

Nehalennia is a very popular goddess in contemporary Dutch paganism and heathenry. Several of her altars can be viewed in the permanent exhibition in the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden in Leiden. This lesson will be all about Nehalennia and the symbolism on these altars.

18 September 2024: The Gundestrup cauldron

One of the most intriguing artefacts found in Northern Europe must be the Gundestrup cauldron. I’ll be talking about it’s rich symbolism and possible connections to ancient pagan myths and cults.

16 October 2024: Lilith

Someone asked me if I would do a lesson about this ancient supernatural woman from Jewish mythology. What about more ancient sources? And what does she mean in later myths and folklore, and in modern witchcraft?

13 November 2024: Albrecht Dürer’s witch art

Dürer is one of the great masters of the Northern Renaissance. Among many works he made some intruiging works of magic and witchcraft. What do they mean?

11 December 2024: Peter Nicolai Arbo’s art of Norse mythology

Arbo’s painting “Asgardreien” (often also called “The Wild Hunt”) is shared widely among modern heathens. We’ll take a closer look at his Northern Romantic paintings, including his paintings of valkyries and battles.
